Racist Councillor

I was dismayed to read (News 7th March) that Cambridgeshire County Council have not disciplined Councillor Gail Kenney for the racist and islamophobic comments she made toward the young group of Cambridge women last summer.

It is a disgrace that a councillor can be so disrespectful to young people when they are trying to engage with democracy. It is further shameful that the Council should virtually dismiss the complaint when the group had the courage seek justice and stand up for their rights.

Muslim’s are already being made scapegoats by the Government. New Labour have courted racism in order to try and justify their failed ‘War on Terror’. However this should not be an excuse for local representatives to follow suit. What Councillor Kenney said would have rightly lost most of us our jobs. In the current political climate our local representatives and public bodies should be going out of their war to ensure that every on in our community feels that they are supported and treated equally.

Lobby Parliament

The starting point for a national NHS campaign!!

Saturdays successful march and rally in Cambridge town center was an excellent start to a campiagn and movement that needs to be big enough to stop any government in their tracks. We need to make it impossible for Blair, Brown, Cameron, Ming Campbell or any one else to impliment their neo liberal 'reforms' and rip appart our Nationalised Health Service.

The 350 people who formed the angry demonstration last weekend were amongst tens of thousands who took to the street across the country in the national day of action. We now need to build momentum by getting as many people to Huntingdon on the 17th of March for the Demonstraton there. We must show our solidarity to the 400 staff loosing there jobs at Hinchingrooke Hospital in Huntingdon and make their struggle our struggle.

Linking up the regional campaigns and building confidence of each other will be anouther step to getting the largest possible mobilisation form the east to the national demonstration in London later in the year.
